nonopi’s day out (redux)

Back in 2019, just a few months after we’d met, my partner Sonja and I had a little weekend game jam in my minuscule Tokyo apartment. The result was a tiny (and very short) little one-button runner about our dog, Nonopi, rushing for her dinner; she has to eat snacks to stay awake or she’ll fall asleep on the way. (Don’t think about the premise too hard; we certainly didn’t.)

Sonja did the artwork and I did the rest. It was their first experience both with game development and with 2D animation, and years later I’m still amazed at how charming the game looks. Given that I spent about an hour on it, I’m pretty happy with how the music came out, too.

Anyway, a couple years later, I came out as trans, and—having lost the source files to the game in a hard drive failure—had no way to update the credits screen. Which made me a bit less enthusiastic about sharing this silly little project.

Fast forward to this spring, during which I’ve found myself with an excess of spare time (long story); I decided to extract the original assets from the game and rebuild it from scratch. (Not a terribly difficult task, given its simplicity.) So here it is again, with a few small changes, and with my real damn name in the credits.
